The 2021 Chapman Challenge
2021 Chapman Challenge Announcement
Yes. There will be a 2021 Chapman Challenge. Beth has committed that she will do better in 2021. So, the first quarter challenge (yes we are going to quarters – because I have too much on my plate to manage monthly challenges) is the Bi-Athlon Challenge.
You receive points for every mile biked or run/walked.
1 mile run = 4 points
1 mile biked = 1 point
1 mile swum = 10 points
Basically, you can log your miles – and get the points. The person with the most points wins. For 1 mile – you log 10 on the typeform (because you cannot use a decimal point).

June 2020 – Crush the Covid-15
Many of us have suffered a slight weight gain – the Covid-15 – during the pandemic. So, the goal for June is to reach a goal weight. Thus, there are three ways to score points:
- Exercise – Miles of walking, running, biking, snow-shoeing, whatever.
- Weight Improvement – towards your goal weight. So, if you are already perfect, I am jealous – you just have to stay there. You must enter your goal weight on your first survey.
- Nutritional Awesomeness – you have to record the number of servings of vegetables/fruits.

At the end of June – please put in your current weight instead of your goal weight. I will know the difference because it will be a different number.
May 2020 – the Mindfulness Challenge
For May, the goal is both physical and mental. The physical part of the challenge is to be outside and intentionally exercise. The second part of the challenge is to intentionally be mindful of your blessed existence. You get one point for each. So, max May points are 62. Who can get them all?
And the winner is Mary…again. She is dominating the Chapman Challenge.

April 2020 – the Quarantine Challenge
The goal for the Quarantine Challenge is to stay active while staying at home. This is a significant challenge for many. So, we have decided to standardize three in place exercises that everyone can do. Push-ups, Sit-ups, and Squats. This will give you whole body workout. This is a maximum challenge meaning that the person with the most total – regardless of category is the winner!
| Pushups | Situps | Squats | Total | |
| Mary Chapman | 320 | 476 | 1355 | 2151 |
| Danny O’Byrne | 150 | 150 | 200 | 500 |
| Tom Chapman | 480 | 730 | 120 | 1330 |

March 2020 – the Lenten Challenge
The goal of the March Challenge is to run or walk 40 miles during Lent (which technically goes from Ash Wednesday (2/26) until Easter (4/12)). So, we are going to do a challenge where there can be lots of winners. All you have to do is run or walk 40 miles. Again, for this challenge, we will use some basic suppositions for sports:
- Soccer – 3 miles
- Basketball – 2 miles
- Marathon – 26.2 miles
- Half-Marathon – 13.1 miles
- Swimming many laps – does not count – this is about running

We have some winners. The Pittsburgh folks are on the board. Both Mary and Danny have passed the Lenten goal of 40 miles. Tom has also made the grade. Wow, that’s Amazing!
February 2020 – Team Step Challenge
The goal of the Team Step Challenge is to walk and count steps. The goal is for each team to achieve 200k steps per team member. Each team should have at least two members (but you can have as many as you would like).
Winner: Celiac Powered (Tom+Claire) with well over 700k steps!!!
